I’m frequently asked why I decided to become a licensed wedding officiant. The simple answer is that I believe in marriage. It’s an institution I cherish, and it’s very personal to me. As a matter of fact, this year my wife, Susan and I will celebrate our 35th year of marriage! But how did I get started? Like I said, it’s personal.
In 2008, my god-daughter, Kara, and her fiancé, Roberto were having a tough time finding a venue for their wedding. They had set out with the intention of being married in a Catholic Church, but Roberto wasn’t able to complete the prior sacraments required in time for their desired wedding date. It didn’t look like a Catholic wedding was in the cards, and they didn’t know what to do. Everybody was gathered at our dinner table, and we were trying to figure out a solution.
“Why not have Vince officiate the wedding?”
Well the next thing you know, I’m at Manhattan City Hall, the forms are signed, the fees are paid, and as they say, the rest is history.
That August, I performed their wedding, and I loved it so much, I’ve been officiating ceremonies for couples throughout New York and New Jersey ever since. I’m proud to say that in 2011, I had the pleasure of officiating the wedding of my daughter, Carly and her husband, Chris; truly a highlight of this new endevour. Couples enjoy working with me because my philosophy is simple: True love is hard to come by in this life. If two people meet and fall in love, they deserve to be celebrated for their commitment to one another in a manner of their choosing, not one prescribed by anyone else. Every wedding I am a part of is a treasured and unique memory. I truly enjoy my small part in these couples’ journeys.
I look forward to many years of bringing happy pairs together for a lifetime of commitment, support, and love. I would be honored if your wedding were part of this legacy.
